Can You Buy a Seat Cushion With NDIS Funding? A Guide for Australian Participants

Can Disability Support Funding Help Pay for a Seat Cushion in Singapore?

Can Disability Support Funding Help Pay for a Seat Cushion in Singapore?

Singapore has support schemes for eligible assistive technology and mobility devices, including the Assistive Technology Fund and the Seniors' Mobility and Enabling Fund.

A retail seat cushion is not automatically covered. Eligibility depends on the applicant, the scheme, an assessment of need and approval before purchase.

The short answer: Funding may be available for an approved assistive device when it meets the relevant scheme requirements. Do not purchase a Spinely® product expecting reimbursement unless the responsible agency or qualified assessor has confirmed the process and approved the item.

What Is the Assistive Technology Fund?

The Assistive Technology Fund, administered by SG Enable, provides means-tested subsidies for eligible persons with disabilities who need approved assistive technology for areas such as independent living, education, training, employment, therapy or rehabilitation.

The fund is not a general reimbursement programme for ordinary comfort products. The device and application must meet the current requirements. Review the latest guidance from Singapore's Ministry of Social and Family Development and SG Enable before making a purchase.

What Is the Seniors' Mobility and Enabling Fund?

The Seniors' Mobility and Enabling Fund supports eligible seniors with approved mobility and assistive devices. The Agency for Integrated Care lists pressure-relief cushions among the categories that may be supported, but approval depends on the person's circumstances and an assessment by an approved healthcare professional.

Applications should be approved before purchase. The Agency for Integrated Care states that items bought in advance cannot be reimbursed through the scheme.

Check the current AIC guidance for mobility and assistive devices for eligibility, assessment and application information.

What Should You Check Before Buying?

  • Which scheme applies to the applicant?
  • Does the person meet the current citizenship, age, disability and means-testing requirements?
  • Has a qualified assessor recommended the type of device?
  • Must the application be approved before the product is ordered?
  • Is the specific product and supplier acceptable under the scheme?
  • What documents, quotation or product details are required?

Important: Spinely® cannot determine funding eligibility or guarantee that an order will be subsidised. Confirm the current requirements with SG Enable, AIC or the qualified professional supporting the application before purchasing.
